How it works

Locks and keys.

  1. Pick what to lock

    The whole store, or chosen products, collections, vendors, pages or blogs. Leave exceptions open if you like.

  2. Choose the keys

    Customer tags such as wholesale or vip. A logged-in customer with any matching tag sees everything as normal.

  3. Decide what others see

    Hide prices and buy buttons, show a login prompt or your own message, and block checkout for locked products.

  • Checkout blocking

    Customers without a key can't buy locked products, even from a direct cart link. This runs inside Shopify's checkout.

  • Hidden prices and buy buttons

    Guests and untagged customers see "Log in for pricing" or your own message in place of prices and add-to-cart.

  • Locked products, collections and pages

    Send visitors to a lock message or login page instead, and hide locked products from collection grids and menus.

  • Protected content block

    Put wholesale price sheets or members-only text in a theme block that Shopify only sends to customers with the key.

  • Works with your tagging apps

    Tags can come from Shopify Flow, an application form, or by hand. Tag Lock reads them live, so changes apply on the next page load.

  • No theme code edits

    Installs as a theme app embed you switch on in the theme editor. Uninstalling leaves your theme exactly as it was.

Do I need Shopify Plus?

No. Checkout blocking works on every Shopify plan.

Does Tag Lock store my customers' data?

No. Customer tags are read live by your storefront and by Shopify's checkout, and never sent to or saved on our servers. See the privacy policy.

What happens if your server goes down?

Your locks keep working. The storefront and checkout read your rules from Shopify directly, so they never wait on us.

Which themes does it work with?

Any Online Store 2.0 theme. Checkout blocking doesn't depend on your theme at all.

How do customers get tagged?

However you like: by hand in Shopify admin, with Shopify Flow, or with an application form app. Tag Lock only reads tags; it never changes them.
